Key Questions

1. Did strong school leaders generate organizational capacity in their schools?

2. Did schools with strong organizational capacity engage more with the Skyline curriculum?

Overview

In partnership with Chicago Public Schools, the Consortium studied the 2021 launch of the Skyline literacy (ELA) curriculum for grades K-2, looking at how investing in certain resources can lead to instructional change. This infographic, created in collaboration with the RESTART Network, spotlights findings on the organizational resources that supported implementation, including championing professional learning and promoting collaboration structures.

Key Findings:

  • Leaders in many schools allocated resources to expand organizational capacity around adoption and implementation of the Skyline ELA curriculum in grades K-2.
  • Through strategic investments across five domains, leaders strengthened organizational capacity to support teachers’ engagement with the Skyline ELA curriculum. Leaders who targeted key organizational levers:
    • Championed professional learning
    • Protected teacher time
    • Expanded staff support
    • Engaged external support
    • Strengthened collaboration structures.
  • Teachers whose leaders prioritized investments in at least one of the five organizational capacity levers reported greater confidence and satisfaction with Skyline curricular materials than their counterparts.
