This is regarding "Of 100 Chicago Public School freshmen, six will get a college degree" (Page 1, April 21). The recent report by the Consortium on Chicago School Research about the small percentage of Chicago Public Schools students who complete college is a serious and sobering analysis. There are two issues, however, that could get lost in the public consideration of this report.
First, while the college success rates of CPS graduates remain disappointingly low, there are grounds for cautious optimism involving educational initiatives too new to be measured in this report...
