Traditional approaches to teaching and learning and traditional school structures are inadequate to the learning demands of the 21st century and inconsistent with research on human learning and development. It is in the context of the search for/transition to new school models and instructional models that the Equitable Learning & Development Group at the UChicago Consortium situates our work. Within this context of innovation, we build knowledge and capacity to best support learning and positive development for young people and the adults who work with them in schools and other learning settings. We are explicitly concerned with addressing social and economic inequalities, supporting educators to change educational systems, and supporting young people to expand themselves and change the world.
