The Cultivate system draws on research showing that students’ daily experience of their classroom learning conditions drives their engagement, perseverance, and learningand, in turn, shapes their longer term academic outcomes, identity development, and well-being. Cultivate centers students’ perspectives, providing an opportunity for teachers to respond to their students’ experiences, build relationships, and partner with students for improvement.

To provide clear and actionable data and insights, Consortium researchers, including the Consortium Equitable Learning & Development Group, partnered with UChicago Impact and partner districts and schools to create a reporting system to help schools interpret and use survey data, as well as practice guides that offer teachers objectives and strategies tied to each of the nine learning conditions on the Cultivate Survey.
