Jiara Luna

Jiara Luna is an undergrad Research Assistant at the UChicago Consortium on School Research as a Lewis-Sebring fellow. In this role, she helps the Senior Researchers with their project on the learning environment of Chicago Public Schools within the Learning and Development Group. Before working with the Consortium, Jiara started nannying with her mother. She later began working at another non-profit organization called Jubilee Park and Community center in Southeast Dallas as a summer school counselor and student nutrition researcher. Her first job in Chicago was with the University’s Neighborhood Schools Program where she assisted children who spoke English as a second language inside their classrooms. Throughout her career, Jiara has focused on a holistic approach towards educational inequality, which includes attending to students’ home life, extracurricular needs, social/emotional and physical health, academic resources, and overall access to support. As a FLI student, she believes quality education plays a major role in socioeconomic mobility and stability, therefore it is important to ensure all students have access to such. She is a proud QuestBridge and Odyssey Scholar, who enjoys making art, listening to music, producing indie films, and sunbathing.
