This podcast focuses on the report, From High School to the Future: The Challenge of Senior Year in Chicago Public Schools, which was released in February 2013. For this report, Consortium researchers looked closely at the senior year experiences of students in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). They found that while some seniors take advanced coursework, the majority of CPS seniors have schedules dominated by make-up courses, electives, and vocational coursework. The students themselves described senior year as unchallenging and easier than previous years.
Report author and Lead Qualitative Researcher for the Chicago Postsecondary Transition Project, Eliza Moeller, discusses key findings of the report and how they can be used to advance the goal of getting all students college/career ready.
